Music Experience
Stu Marshall is a versatile multi-instrumentalist whose musical journey began on the clarinet. He studied under George Keonig, a former woodwind player with the legendary Benny Goodman Orchestra, gaining a strong foundation in tone, technique, and musicianship. His dedication to the instrument led him to serve as concertmaster on clarinet during his high school years, and later again at Plattsburgh State University.
Inspired to continue with woodwinds, Stu took up the saxophone at age 13, further deepening his connection to jazz and blues traditions. Alongside his formal woodwind training, he explored piano, studying classical, jazz, and blues with a variety of teachers, while teaching himself guitar and harmonica.
On piano, Stu draws inspiration from artists such as Billy Joel, Elton John, and the Allman Brothers, blending their songwriting sensibilities and rhythmic drive with his own musical voice. He has a deep love for blues, honky-tonk piano, rock and roll, and jazz—styles that shape both his performances and his approach to teaching. His piano playing balances technical precision with soulful expression, bringing energy and authenticity to every piece.
On guitar, Stu moves effortlessly across genres—from rock to jazz—demonstrating a wide stylistic range and musical adaptability. The saxophone remains a core voice in his sound, offering warmth and melodic depth, while the harmonica adds an unmistakable blues-infused character.
Together, these instruments reflect a lifelong dedication to learning, listening, and sharing music—an approach that now shapes both his performing and teaching.
